You don't necessarily have to have a wrought iron or wooden poster headboard in your room to make your room look beautiful. There are other things you can use as a headboard instead of the traditional headboards, and you can even make your own if you are handy. See below for a few different headboard ideas for your bedroom.
Doors
Yes, doors can be used as a headboard. You can use brand new doors, or one you found at a yard sale. Turn the door on it's side and paint it any color you want to. Add a mantle to the top to give it a more finished look. You can use two doors side by side as well. This will give you a taller headboard, which is great in a bigger space. Attach the doors to the wall using anchors and screws, or attach it to your bed frame by adding legs to the doors and screwing them to the frame.
Shutters
Use four shutters side by side painted in any color you like and screw them to the wall. Lower the two side shutters a few inches to give them a more interesting look.
Curtains
Add curtains behind your bed for a romantic look. Use sheer curtains with small twinkling lights, or curtains to match your decor hung on a whimsical curtain rod. Hang them from the ceiling to the floor, or just halfway up your wall.
Faux Brick Or Wood
Glue faux brick or laminate wood to your wall behind your bed for a different type of headboard. Take the brick and wood all the way up to the ceiling for a more dramatic look.
DIY Upholstered Headboard
Take a piece of cardboard and cut it to the size and shape you want. Add some padding or foam to the cardboard with glue, and then glue fabric around the entire piece of cardboard to create the look of an expensive upholstered headboard. Add some buttons to give it more texture. Then attach it to your wall behind your bed using wire.
Vintage Windows
Hang up vintage windows with or without the glass above your bed. Use two together or four arranged in a large square. Paint them any color you want and sand them down a bit to keep the vintage look.
Use your own style when choosing a headboard for your bedroom. You can go with a traditional style if you wish, or you can go with a non-traditional look.
